Biography
I was born in Sri Lanka, moved to Canada, then the USA. I grew up mostly in Florida and did my undergrad at the University of Florida. I worked at the Institute for Child Health Policy in Gainesville under an incredibly supportive mentor who inspired me to pursue public health. I then went on to complete my MPH and MSci at Boston University with a concentration in Global Health (Sex, sexuality, gender, and health) and a research focus on short term medical missions. Though I loved thinking about health on a population level, I felt like something was missing by not fully understanding the individual level. I went to medical school at Florida International University HWCOM in Miami, FL. During this time I was primarily involved with community outreach and tutoring. My interests within family medicine are women's health, particularly contraception and abortion access, global health, and academic medicine. I am so impressed by Brown FM's strength in all these areas as well as their commitment to the underserved. Outside of medicine, I love spending time with my dog, being outdoors, and reading. I am excited to explore Rhode Island!
