Why did you enter medicine?
The National Health Service Corps and the notion that I would need to make a living while writing fiction. The National Health Service Corps came along, and that convinced me that it was okay to be a doctor because it was about truly caring for communities.
What attracted you to the Brown Family Medicine Residency?
It was the largest family medicine residency program on the East Coast. I liked the idea of living in an old New England town that needed revitalization.
“ My major mentor was Jack Cunningham. He was a hero and a mentor and just a totally good guy. I miss him everyday! ”
What valuable lessons did you take from your time in the Brown residency?
Know your medicine inside and out so that no one can ever question whether you know what you are doing. Also, NEVER STOP ADVOCATING FOR PATIENTS AND PATIENT CARE.
