The Family Medicine team rounds at The MIriam Hospital

The Brown Family Medicine Residency has two sites, one in Pawtucket at the Family Care Center and one in West Warwick at the Thundermist Health Center. This blended program brings together one of the oldest allopathic Family Medicine residencies in the country, with over 500 graduates, and a newer osteopathic residency with a dedicated osteopathic track.

Both sites are based in safety net clinics that are Patient-Centered Medical Homes with integrated behavioral health services, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and gender affirming care. Patients benefit from well trained faculty and residents are able to perform outpatient orthopedics, dermatology and reproductive health procedures. Warwick residents benefit from core osteopathic faculty who provide onsite supervision for osteopathic manipulative treatment.

Our 48 residents receive their inpatient training across multiple academic settings and are recognized for their clinical acumen, compassion, and family-centered care. Additionally, we partner with a number of community organizations to serve the needs of our patients.

Upon graduation, our residents are well prepared to provide broad-spectrum care in diverse settings from community health centers to academic medicine to the Indian Health Service.

Our engaged and nurturing faculty have a variety of interests including global health, family medicine OB, reproductive health, LGBTQ health, population health, sports medicine, and primary care research. As a department, we are strongly committed to health equity, diversity and inclusion. We invite you to explore our web site and learn more about our program.
