Underserved Sites
Our mission is to educate the next generation of full-spectrum family physicians to provide high quality healthcare for all, especially the most vulnerable and underserved. We train residents to be leaders in holistic health care delivery, medical education, research, and advocacy. Our curriculum also emphasizes wellness, health equity and population health. We are committed to recruiting and training a diverse workforce of family physicians that mirror the communities we serve. Â
The Brown Family Medicine Residency has two sites, one in Pawtucket at the Family Care Center and one in West Warwick at the Thundermist Health Center.Â
Both sites are based in safety net clinics that are Patient-Centered Medical Homes with integrated behavioral health services, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and transgender care. Patients benefit from well trained faculty and residents able to perform outpatient orthopedics, dermatology and reproductive health procedures. Warwick residents benefit from core osteopathic faculty who provide supervision for osteopathic manipulative treatment.
Our 48 residents receive their inpatient training across multiple academic settings and are recognized for their clinical acumen, compassion and family-centered care. Additionally, we partner with a number of community organizations to serve the needs of our patients.
Upon graduation, our residents are well prepared to provide full-spectrum care in diverse settings from community health centers to academic medicine to the Indian Health Service.Â
Our engaged and nurturing faculty have a variety of interests including global health, maternal child health, reproductive health, LGBT health, population health, sports medicine and research. As a department, we are strongly committed to health equity, diversity and inclusion. Â We invite you to explore our web site and learn more about our program.
