Family Medicine

Residency Program

As one of the oldest family medicine residency programs in the country, continuously accredited by the ACGME since 1975, we blend a long tradition of excellence in residency training with the evidence-based innovations in education.

On July 1st, 2020, Rhode Island’s two family medicine residencies, joined forces to form the Brown Family Medicine Residency with two underserved tracks, one in Pawtucket at the Family Care Center and one in West Warwick at the Thundermist Health Center.  This blended program brings together one of the oldest allopathic FM residencies with over 500 graduates and a newer osteopathic residency with a dedicated osteopathic track.

We are dedicated to educating the next generation of full spectrum family physicians to provide high quality healthcare for all, especially the most vulnerable and underserved. Residents are trained to be leaders in holistic health care delivery, medical education, research, and advocacy. Our curriculum also emphasizes wellness, health equity and population health. We are committed to recruiting and training a diverse workforce of family physicians that mirror the communities we serve.

To educate skillful, innovative, compassionate leaders in family medicine.
