The Department of Family Medicine congratulates faculty members Fadya El Rayess, MD, MPH, Residency Director, Professor of Family Medicine, Teaching Scholar, and Charles Hackett, MD, FAAFP, Associate Program Director, Pawtucket, Assistant Professor of Family Medicine, Clinician Educator, on being Rhode Island Medical Society 2026 award recipients.
Dr. El Rayess received the Dr. Herbert Rakatansky Award, which recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves through exemplary professionalism and/or humanitarian service in the field of medicine. Recipients of the award exemplify integrity, compassion, and a dedication to improving the lives of others, often in challenging environments or with underserved populations.
El Rayess, has been a member of the residency leadership team since 2011, serving as Assistant and Associate Residency Director before becoming Residency Director in 2017.
Dr. Charles Hackett, was recognized with the 4 Under 40 Award, which honors four physicians under the age of 40 practicing in Rhode Island and demonstrate a strong commitment to the profession and impact on the community. Recipients show leadership in patient care, education, research, and/or advocacy.
Hackett joined the Brown faculty in 2018 as a clinic, FMOB and inpatient attending. In 2023, he joined the core faculty in his role as Associate Program Director for the Pawtucket site.
