Andrea Augustine, MD
Biography
Andrea Augustine was born in Kerala, India, raised in Atlanta, Ga., and studied in Houston, Texas as Rice University as a QuestBridge Scholar and at the University of Texas Health Science Center School of Public Health.
Augustine graduated from medical school at Duke University on the Primary Care Leadership Track, discovering family medicine through love of building long-term relationships with patients and engaging meaningfully with their communities. Growing up as a low-income, first-generation immigrant also shaped the path to family medicine and drives her commitment to addressing health determinants on a broader scale.
During her educational career she became an ABFM Pisacano Scholar, serving on the AAFP Foundation Board of Trustees, started the Primary Care Student Alliance to foster student interest by highlighting the breadth of primary care, and founded Dance For Our Health, a program supporting neurodiverse middle schoolers through movement and nutrition.
Augustine is especially interested in behavioral health, caring for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, public health and policy, and leadership and advocacy in organized medicine. Augustine was drawn to Brown FMRP for its strong focus on community engagement, social justice, and caring for underserved populations, along with its full-spectrum training and the supportive, collaborative vibe felt from everyone.
Outside of medicine, Augustine loves trying new restaurants, coffee shops, and sweet treat spots (and leaving meticulous Yelp reviews). Augustine is usually reading historical fiction or memoirs, writing short stories, or going to concerts. I’m really excited to experience life in the Northeast and grow as a family physician and leader at Brown!
