Ayesha Gurnani, DO
Biography
I chose family medicine for a love of community, which is something I believe Kent Hospital exemplifies beautifully. The Brown residents, faculty, staff, and patients have all shown me a great deal of kindness as well as an incredible passion for education and purpose. I personally also enjoy working with rural and underserved populations and practicing OMM, and these are areas I was confident that training at Kent would help me become stronger in. The warm welcome I received as soon as I stepped into Rhode Island made me feel at home instantly, and Kent felt like the right place to explore the next phase of my growth into a compassionate and thoughtful physician, much like many of the roles models I have met here.
My hobbies and interests include art, writing, gardening, hiking, learning about mycology, herbalism, and agriculture. I worked as an artist full time for a year prior to attending medical school and enjoy working with various media, and I believe the study of art and art history augments my understanding of the human body and and nature. I am fascinated by integrative and lifestyle medicine and the interconnectedness of the world around us, and am a certified yoga teacher and reiki practitioner.
I am also involved in the Psychedelic Medicine Conference at Rown-Virtua SOM, which I co-founded and chaired as a student. I attended several mycology and farming festivals to vend my ceramics and speak about accessible educaiton, harm reduction, and bridging communities. In my spare time, I can be found going on walks, watering my plants, brewing teas, journaling, and hanging out with my cat Totter.
