Brian Welling, DO
Biography
Hello there! My name is Brian Welling, and I am ecstatic to join the Brown family!
My life journey has taken me from Rhode Island to Arkansas to Texas and now full circle back to the state I was born in. I completed my undergraduate studies in Biology at the University of Arkansas (Woo Pig Sooie!) and my medical degree at Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Growing up in Arkansas, I was imbued with an insatiable curiosity for the community, the outdoors, and healthcare. At a young age, I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. A physician, and mentor, taught me that this disease does not control me, I control it. This philosophy drove me to advocate for other children diagnosed with our disease and teach them the same belief. Entering medical school, I became passionate about broadening my advocacy and striving to help people feel empowered with this same ideology. The ability to practice a comprehensive, full scope of medicine while empathizing, advocating, and fighting for my patients is what drove me to family medicine. My interests in medicine include metabolic disorders, diabetes prevention and management, promoting health and wellness amongst underserved and vulnerable patient populations, behavioral health, and healthcare equity.
Outside of medicine, I enjoy spending time in nature: hiking, camping, mountain biking, snowboarding, any sport, and exploring the vast beachfront here in Rhode Island. I also enjoy creating new recipes in the kitchen and spending quality time with friends and family. As I said from the outset, I could not be happier to be joining the Brown family. The diversity of people, interests, and passions of my co-residents makes me look forward to continuing this journey with this family during my time here in Rhode Island!
