Dr. Anthony joined the department in September 2003 after completing a Family Medicine Academic Fellowship at Boston University School of Medicine. He currently serves as Director of Medical Student Education. In this capacity, he oversees the clerkship curriculum, teaches in the clerkship, deals with student issues, attends new preceptor site visits and oversees the faculty that teaches in the clerkship. He is the Co-PI on a HRSA Predoctoral Education Grant devoted to increasing the number and preparedness of Alpert Medical School graduates who are caring for underserved communities. His residency responsibilities include precepting in the Family Care Center, advising, and leading the clinical epidemiology curriculum. He also leads the monthly resident Journal Club. Dr. Anthony is on the Editorial Board of the fmCASES, a network of online virtual patient cases used at over 95 medical schools. His academic interests include the use of electronic resources in education, teaching the care of the underserved, and use and evaluation of reflective narrative in education.
Dr. Anthony has received numerous teaching and academic awards, and has been recognized by medical students as a Positive Champion of the Learning Environment multiple times, most recently in 2024.
