Mareena Aldayani, DO

Nova Southeastern University Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine, She/Her

Biography

Hi I’m Mareena! I’m originally from Pakistan and grew up in Miami. I am beyond thrilled to have the opportunity to train at the Brown Family Medicine Residency in the beautiful scenery of Rhode Island and to experience all the seasons -- especially Spring!

During my residency search, I was looking for a full spectrum program that values healthcare advocacy, reproductive justice, serves diverse communities, and cultivates an enthusiasm for creative, collaborative approaches to medical education. I was blown away by the Brown Family Medicine Residency Program because of their unwavering commitment to these same values, their staff’s genuine warmth and compassion, and their clear dedication to providing the best possible care to patients of all circumstances.

Throughout medical school I was passionate about advocating for inclusive, prevention-focused care to those who are often underserved and overlooked. On interview day, I was overjoyed to hear about the Thundermist community clinic, because training at a federally qualified health center would help me achieve my dream of working at an underserved clinic.  I also believe in offering patients a range of relief options to avoid the need for medication or invasive procedures whenever possible, so I love that the Warwick track allows me to maintain and improve my skills in osteopathic manipulative medicine. As an artist from a young age, I have long recognized the unique power of art as a teaching tool and have used my artistic skills to educate patients and promote health literacy. It was heartwarming to see this program not only accept my identity as an artist but also show wholehearted enthusiasm for innovative art-based approaches to patient care.

When I am not at work, you can count on me to be raving about my latest art-related hyper-fixation. I love art in all its forms, whether that is painting, Bollywood dancing, or watching animated films (I am not afraid to admit I have been caught tearing up to a frame of hydrangeas in a Studio Ghibli movie). I’m a daylight savings enthusiast and proud Hufflepuff, so you'll always find me wherever there is loads of sunlight, a good view of the water and some flowers. I am obsessed with Urdu poetry and write some poetry of my own for fun. I love going to concerts for alt r&b, indie, pop, and Pakistani/Indian music, but I would probably never say no to any concert! My favorite guy in the world is my cat, Baadal.
