Rebekah Coelho-Shumskiy, MD
Biography
Bek Coelho grew up in Colorado and earned an undergraduate degree from Northeastern University before completing an MD/MBA at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
Coelho's clinical interests include reproductive health and obstetrics, addiction and carceral medicine, and caring for families through the postpartum and early childhood periods. Coelho was drawn to Brown Family Medicine for its strong commitment to full-spectrum family medicine in an urban setting, its deep partnerships with the community, and its culture of advocacy and social justice. When meeting the residents and faculty at the AAFP conference and during the interview process, it was immediately clear that these were the people Coelho wanted to learn from and work alongside.
Outside of medicine, Coelho greatest joy is spending time with family. Coming from a large Brazilian family and grateful to have gained wonderful Ukrainian relatives through her husband, Igor. Coelho has three kids who keeps life busy and fun. Coelho loves hosting, taking long walks, discovering great restaurants and coffee shops, volunteering in the child welfare space, and interior design.
Coelho is thrilled to have the opportunity to raise a family in Rhode Island and to be joining the Brown Family Medicine community.
