Rebekah Coelho-Shumskiy, MD
Biography
Hello! My name is Bek, and I am so excited to be joining Brown Family Medicine. I grew up in Colorado, attended Northeastern University for my undergraduate studies, and completed my MD/MBA at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
My clinical interests include reproductive health and obstetrics, addiction and carceral medicine, and caring for families through the postpartum and early childhood periods.
Outside of medicine, my greatest joy is spending time with my family. I come from a large Brazilian family and am grateful to have gained wonderful Ukrainian relatives through my husband. I’m the mom of three children who keep life busy and fun! I love hosting, taking long walks, discovering great restaurants and coffee shops, volunteering in the child welfare space, and interior design.
I was drawn to Brown Family Medicine for its strong commitment to full-spectrum family medicine in an urban setting, its deep partnerships with the community, and its culture of advocacy and social justice. When I met the residents and faculty at the AAFP conference and during my interview, it was immediately clear that these were the people I wanted to learn from and work alongside!
I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to raise my family in Rhode Island and to be joining the Brown Family Medicine community!
