Calvin McMillan, MD
Biography
Hello! My name is Calvin, and I'm excited to be joining the Brown Family Medicine residency program. I grew up outside of Philadelphia, PA before moving to southern California to study Neuroscience at Pomona College. After graduating, I returned to Pennsylvania, and, after spending a year working as a tutor outside of Philadelphia, I moved to Pittsburgh for medical school.
I chose family medicine as a specialty because I enjoy working with patients of all ages and genders. I have many passions within family medicine: gender-affirming care and ensuring access to care throughout the lifespan; reproductive care, including caring for pregnant patients, ensuring safe access to family planning and abortion services, and performing deliveries; and caring for children and young people. My goal is to form strong relationships with my patients and to become a full-spectrum family physician so that I can provide excellent and equitable care for my patients throughout their lives. I chose Brown because it seemed like the perfect place to pursue these goals. In addition, as a queer trans man, I am excited to join a program that has other queer and trans residents.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife, Emma, and our two rabbits, Pepper and Cosmo - and hopefully more animals in the future! I also enjoy rock-climbing, trivia nights, listening to audiobooks, binge-watching TV shows, and playing music, and I hope to find time for all of these things despite my busy schedule as a resident.c
