Shir Oring, MD
Biography
Hello! I’m Shir (pronounced sheer), which means “song” in my native language. I am originally from Israel, spent my early childhood in a diverse immigrant community in the California Bay Area, and subsequently have been a proud Rhode Island local since the age of ten. After receiving a Physiology & Neurobiology degree from the University of Maryland, I did neurobiology research for a year at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel before returning to my home state in order to attend the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University. As a medical student, I was drawn to Family Medicine because I wanted to maintain my broad medical education in order to be able to serve people of all ages, sexes, life stages, and medical and psychosocial needs. I was specifically drawn to the Brown Family Medicine program due to its commitment to advocacy and fostering local connections within the population it serves. I am overjoyed to train in and give back to the community that raised me!
During my free time, I love to engage in musical theater, play piano, cook my family’s incredible Kurdish-Jewish recipes, hike the many trails in the southern New England area, and travel with my husband and local family!
